I've had my fill of frigid temps, so I'm outta here! I've lived on the east coast most of my life(Philadelphia and NJ) and plan to relocate this February. I'm looking at Long Beach for apartments(have visited the surrounding areas and like this local..people seem not too stodgy). However, not sure on the community where the apartment complex is located. Address: 926 Locust Ave. Now I've read some of the post here on the different areas, but I'm looking for some non prejudicial feedback-especially from the folks who reside in the area. I'm a professional in my early 50's, female and have no fears about living in the city. My rental range is ($1100 for a 1 bedroom since it's only me) which is a bit more than I pay in Michigan, but I understand the cost of living is higher. I've seen on my last visit that there are areas being redeveloped. If someone could point some more of these out for me, it would help my housing search efforts. And yes, I have a job that will transfer me. Thanks for your help and happy holidays...

First of all Long Beach is in Los Angeles county, not Orange, just letting you know. As for the apartment, this isn't the greatest and most impressive area of Long Beach, but I don't think there is any part of Long Beach that is truely "don't go out of your house during the day" kind of thing, and it is right by St. Mary's I think so it isn't terrible but not great.

I would recommend focusing your search more towards the areas east of downtown rather than north. Try to locate the forumer NapleRes, that individual knows the LBC like the back of their hand.

I love LB. But that area isn't great. I would try to go south and east of that location. For $1100 for a 1 br you can get much closer to the ocean.
