To Placentians, former Placentians and other folks familiar with north Orange County "stuff"....

Do any of you remember a few years back (not sure which year now, but I think it was about 2001 or so) when the City of Placentia moved its Heritage Day Festival out of the Old Town/Kraemer Park area to its current venue (those few days out of each year when it happens) at Tri-City Park? I recall there being a pretty big controversy between old town residents and the rest of the city.

Apparently some people don't care that the word "heritage" implies age and those things from the past. As far as I can remember, the city argued that there was not enough room at Kraemer Park for all the people that would come to the festival and thus moved it north, while the southsiders (Old Town, Etc.)and a number of others argued that an event
celebrating the city's past should be located in its traditional Old Town (plus a number of residents there don't drive and a walk to Tri-City would be a nice little STROLL.) It was rumored that many were afraid to set foot in Old Town area even for the festival, and since many of those people have the bucks, the city caved in to them.

Anybody in the know have some thoughts on this or experience? I know when my sister (who lives in the city) and I were discussing it, her sympathies were with the Old Town crowd even though she doesn't live there.
