Excellent schools.
Relatively high percentage of Asians
Masterplanned
Excellent for families
Other places to consider: Cypress, Los Alamitos, Mission Viejo, Fountain Valley all have pretty decent reputations and schools and may be less expensive than Irvine.

It is ethnically diverse with large east asian ( Japan/China/Korea), Indian, and Persian communities, along with one of the larger jewish enclaves in the OC. The downside is it is expensive, even by CA standards. You can get a 4br home in Irvine for $500-900k, with the median probably around $650-700K. There are other cities close by in OC that offer some of the same amenities and also have very good schools but are a bit more affordable(10-15% less). These include Mission Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Foothill Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, Aliso Viejo, and many more in the area south of Irvine.

How is Irvine to live in? It is great...centrally located in Orange County, nice weather, well planned out master plan city, very safe, and has great schools. I've lived in Irvine for about 10 years and do most of my business here. Most of the buyers who I work with are only looking to buy a home in Irvine for some of those reasons mentioned above. Other surrounding cities like Tustin Ranch, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo, and Newport Beach/Coast.
