Can someone tell me about the quality of the middle schools and H.S. in G.P? Do they have music/P.E., sports, & special programs funded? I know that budget is always an issue, and I am wondering if public school services and class size are stretched to the limit. Is there any chance of the libraries reopening? No libraries doesn't speak well for the educational climate there. Otherwise, I have heard that G.P. is a beautiful place to live and we are looking into relocating there.

District 7 is in great shape, they get lots of $. THey have a performing arts theater like none you have ever seen at a high school level. Professional performances passing by on the I-5 stop and perform.
The sports facilities are amazing, they have an astro turf style football stadium, a basketball gym the Blazers could play in. Great soccer fields.
As to the libraries, all the school libraries are open for the summer, they have more than picked up the slack of the County library, and they are already paid for. Personally I think it was overdue, and my kids used the County library a lot. We have 5 addicted readers. Now they can go to the schools libraries and get books. They have better computers there too.
The parents are very involved in helping out at the different schools, we homeschool, but some of our friends that don't, speak highly of the schools.
Come check it out, see if it fits.

best wishes,

freedom

Good question, I think it is for students only. I'll ask the Mrs...

I havn't needed it for yrs myself, for research (since google anyway), and I get books downloaded to my Ipod.
Sooooo, personally I don't need them, but I see that not everyone wants to curl up to a warm fire with their ipod.
We are getting a Barnes and Noble, it should open this fall.
And I have noticed that my kids book shelves are filling up, so I think they are buying them now more than going to the school libraries.

District 7 seems in good fiscal shape, with a new(er) Grants Pass High School with every amenity. Three Rivers, the county system, seems always needy.. Most of our children went through private schools, but my wife and I graduated from GP High School, and it seems OK today, but as with all public schools, it lacks educational excellence, and more so each year. Our family deals with foreign exchange students, and they come here for the most part, for the cultural experience expecting to lose a year in their education in the sciences and mathematics.

I love the sound of Grants Pass and what I've learned of it off the web. How are the people? I live in an area where the people are horrible, and the weather is stifling hot in the summer. I've been wanting to head north to Oregon for some time now, and think GP may be ideal. Could somebody tell me about their experience living there? I am an animal lover, and looking for people that are animal friendly. How is the local shelter? Have you had experience with volunteers or animal control? The weather sounds mild 30 to 68, something like that? I'd be coming from the Redding, CA area. I want out of CA.

If you want to check out the shelter, check out the Rogue Valley Critter Cam. Google it. You can see the kittens and puppies and other "critters" up for adoption.

I am thrilled, this looks like my kind of place. Look at what these people are doing for chained dogs. RVHS Breaking News

I love it. I've been working on my husband, and it looks like we have a road trip ahead of us to visit GP. I already found a house on the net, on 2.75 acres. It's zip is 97527 on Linda Vista Rd. We're not near ready to move, but I can get excited. I can't wait to get out a here.
thanks kady
