Make sure the dryer vent stays connected. A surprising number of dryers don't have the necessary fittings and flex to make them work properly. There should be an elbow where it comes out of the wall, an elbow on the back of the dryer, and a flex pipe between the two long enough to let you slide the dryer out a ways without disconnecting it.

As you have noted, other sources of water inside a house come from the shower and cooking. Outside the house, poorly maintained gutters and downspouts will put a lot of water on the ground right next to the walls, where it can get under the house.
