Eugene is a good typical example of Oregon.
Roseburg is pretty sunny. Better weather than Eugene.

Curry County is 70% federal timber land. People can't live there and people can't work there.

Corvallis is the answer. Corvallis, Oregon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia look at all this stats that basically say Corvallis is one of the safest towns in the country. The people there are smart it is near Eugene and the beach (even though you have to take one of the scariest roads in the country to get there called highway 34) There are tons of outdoor activity to do and it is rural but still a nice size place that have Eugene near by https://maps.google.com/

Really the only downside to Corvallis is highway 34

I disagree, another down side to corvallis is the cost of living. It is very expensive because of OSU, not many jobs either. On area we have lived and really enjoyed because of its easy commute and small town living is Eagle Point, Not too far from Medford and with all the growth of the area, they just expanded the Eagle Point school. Could be teaching opportunities there. We have some friends in the area so if you want to connect with real people that actually live there, pm me.

You could commute to Grants Pass but in winter I wouldn't recommend it. Rogue River is beautiful like Eagle Point but not as inexpensive. I also like that EP is very close to lots of outdoor activities, Hiking up Table Rock, going fishing or skiiing on the rivers and lakes, just alot of all around beauty and free access to those activities.

We lived there for 3 years and LOVED it, husband lost his job at Harry and David and we left the state and came to Nebraska. Been here almost 4 years now and we are moving back to Oregon. Now to the NE side of the state to take care of aging parents, but excited never the less to be back in Oregon.

Hope that helps.

Corvallis is rather expensive but it is worth the price. And as for Jobs yes it seems to be slow but there are jobs nearby in Lebanon, Albany and Eugene. But the town is really nice and towns of activity and schools. As for Eagle Rock I can not answer because I do not know alot about the place.
