Wow. You must not be from Oregon if you think 500,000 people does not qualify as a big town.

How are the High Schools in Eugene, Salem or Springfield. My daughter is interested in programming or webpage design and is taking courses here in Fresno for it. I need feedback on the schools in these areas. Thanks.

500,00 is a big town...that's why I said I did NOT want to live in a big town environment. I have had enough of the big town so moving to Portland would be out because it is too busy for my taste.

Do check out Dallas which is a small town. It is west and slightly south of Salem.

Your daughter would want to attend UO in Eugene which offers programming in the Dept of Mathematics and is chuck full of the artistic types. Best blend of academic offerings.

At Sprague HS in Salem the computer programming track is Pascal, Java, C++, and then you are eligible for individual coding projects. They have three graphic design classes, and then the coding/design kids are eligible to work on business web pages. Sprague has partnerships with local businesses to manage webpages, and they also work on the Sprague HS page. I really like the coding teacher at Sprague.

You can see the Sprague class offerings here for 15-16.

I don't know about the other Salem HS's offerings, but they will be similar for West and South, I would think. Sprague is generally considered the best high school in Salem. In Eugene it would be South Eugene HS. I don't know anything about Springfield's education system.

I disagree. The OP is looking for good schools. Dallas is so anti-tax that their schools are really hurting.

Who told you that? Dallas schools are doing better than most.

Everything I read is that they are just average.

Example:

Average is just that Average, not doing poorly, but Average.

So you agree that average is not "better than most"?
