Coos Bay Area, Lesbian & Gay friendly?? (Portland, Ashland: college, living in)

I have been thinking about relocation to the Oregon area, and Coos Bay just really speaks to me. I am curious to what peoples feeling are in and around the area on Gay and Lesbian relationships? Is it a place i could be open and not worry about hate?

The more rural you get in Oregon, the more conservative, in general. If you go to Portland, oh yes very much so, but that's the antithesis of Coos Bay in terms of size and population, now isn't it? You'd do fine in Ashland, which is probably the closest thing you can get to Coos Bay and still be out and accepted. I hate to be so negative, but especially if you're a woman, you gotta think about your safety.

I live here in Coos Bay, I dont know of a LOT of gay people, but the few I do know, dont seem to really have any issues. Im a resident, and I certainly dont have any issues on the sex you prefer to be with. As long as youre a good, positive person, we'd probably get along great, you and I. Its the person, not the preference that I care about....
of course, like anywhere, you'll find people on each end of the fence, and enough inbetween too.
Id say, come and visit and see what you feel the vibe is yourself. You'll never know for sure just relying on other peoples opinions via a forum board. Is a visit possible?

Conservative County and that generally translates to not very GLBT friendly. Even the democrats are conservative pro gun in Coos County. The reality is no, there are not many GLBT in Coos Bay, and Yes, those that are here do not have many issues, but they are not accepted either.

I am a gay guy, 21, I lived in Coos Bay for a while while I went through some of my college. There were gay people, nobody had a problem with it, not that I cared if they happened to have a problem haha. There just isn't a gay hang out spot or bar or anything, BUT being someone who has living in alot of places (mostly medium to large metros) it is nice to meet other gay people outside of a gay bar or gay club and in Coos Bay thats the reality, you would meet someone the same way a straight person would, like at a store, a park, the beach, just gotta put your gaydar on high alert & can't be shy now!! but to me is a nice change. Also because there isn't a gay hang out spot there isn't room for all the queens to get together, talk their **** and do what queens do (the gays hear me on this one-) so all in all, it isn't so bad, just a quiet life... AND IF YOU ARE SHY TO APPROACH SOMEONE, THEN THANK GOD FOR INTERNET BABY!
