I use to live in Nyssa and shopped in Ontario,my best friend lives there and keeps me up on the news-they have a Super Wal-Mart and are building Home-Deopot.It is desert country-only 12 inches of rain per year and part of that is snow.Onions are one of the biggest crops raised there-Ore-Ida has a plant there.There are 3 prisions there or nearby and provide a lot of the jobs.Can be tough to find a job and employers know they have the upper hand-I have heard some interesting stories from my working friends there.The high school has a very poor record card from the state.Nyssa high school has a very good reputation.Super highway to Boise (50 minutes away?) but traffic is BAD in Boise-the city has grown so quickly,I believe it has been ranked as 3rd fastest growing city in America.People were nice,rental prices were good for Oregon.Sorry to take so long to reply-I just didn't see your question.I hate it when no one answers.

my dad was born and raised in Ontario and Nyssa. He has 2 sisters there, and lots of other family. He was the only one to move away. He really liked it, and obviously so does the rest of our family since theyre all still there. lol. It does have a lot of charm and the people (even the ones im NOT related to lol) are typically quite friendly. But I could never live there, for one, too much family to drive me nutso.lol and its just not my type of terrain. Not quite green and wet enough for my taste.
But it is quite beautiful and has much to offer.

We shop in Ontario Oregon all the time.It is about 50 miles from Cambridge where we live. We have noticed in the last 13 years the traffic has about doubled. Home Depot is built and has been for a little over a year. We do about 85 percent of our shopping in Ontario the rest in Weiser . Very little shopping in Boise. We go there every couple of years to get new glasses That is about the extent of our Boise shopping.We also shop on the internet to avoid the trip to Boise. Now a days by the time you pay gas to Boise you might as well pay shipping.

I live in Ontario. I love the small town with farms all around. I was disappointed in the school system here compared to where we moved from (Utah), but my 4 kids have been excelling. The people here are great. Super friendly and welcome anyone. It is conservative, but people are open to other ideas. You will always see the good, bad, and the ugly in any town you go to, but I've been happy here with my family.

We are considering a transfer to the Ontario/Vale area. My husband was told that it is has too many very large corporation farms, not that many small operations. Also, he was told that it gets very cold in the winter with temperature inversions causing extreme cold. Of course, this is from someone who moved away! Please tell me about the climate. Also, have there been any problems with inmates or inmate families in the area due to the 3 prisons?

Hmmm. Very small town feeling. Very agricultural feeling. Plusses, about an hour from Boise. No sales tax. Good access to Snake River, mountains, etc.
