I think the crime problem is blown out of proportion.
The news likes to sensationalize it and this forum likes to perpetuate it.
I think that in 2006-2008 it got a little rough and we have some record breaking crime, but in the last couple years it has been pretty calm. I actually thought about this over the weekend because I live in the heart of the city in the 32812. It is pretty centrally located and I forgot to lock the front door before going to bed Saturday. This is something I always make sure to do just being in Orlando or any major urban area, but I forgot. Nothing happened and there was no incident so it was just a little reminder that it kind of gets exaggerated. Orlando is a very enjoyable place and Florida in general is very fun and beautiful IMO so the little things that people gripe about astound me.

Like all big cities it has crime. I don't go to certain areas regardless of the time of day and I don't have a need to go out past 6 most of the time. I like it here and think the future is pretty good.

I like living here. Not much of a crime problem here in Lake Mary.

Default FDLE: Crime in Florida hits 39-year low

Violent crimes — murder, forcible sex crimes, robbery, aggravated assault — dropped 10 percent from the previous year, according to the report. Nonviolent crimes — burglary, larceny and motor-vehicle theft — declined by 6 percent.

For Central Florida, that meant a dramatic drop in murders. Orange County Sheriff's Office records show homicides fell by 41 percent, from 74 in 2008 to 44 last year. Overall crime dropped by 7 percent.

At Orlando Police Department, 28 homicides were reported last year, compared with 43 in 2008. That's a 35 percent drop. Overall, crime in the city was down by 12 percent.

The drop in crime is good news for Central Florida's tourism industry.
