I hear it's now $14 a day to park during your cruise out of Port Canaveral. I'd rather park a mile away and walk, than pay that rate.

Does anyone know of any place close to the ships to park for free during a cruise?

None whatsoever. Every lot in the area either is a pay lot or will tow cars left after 2:00 am. For your reason exactly.

Isn't it something that all these companies continue to raise their rates every year as though the economy is as strong as ever and that people can continue to absorb all these cost. Every year these crooks raise their parking rates, and I agree it's gotten way out of control. It's bad enough that these cruise lines want to slap a fuel charge onto our cruises now then keep raising the parking. Cruises aren't as appealing as they once where, maybe these cruise lines will get the message if less people book with them.

Cruising is still one of the most cost effective vacations out there. You can always get someone to drive you to the port if you don't want to pay the parking fees.

I agree, the parking fees should be figured in along with the cost of the cruise, and I also believe that a cruise still gives a lot of bang for the buck. You can find some really good deals out there.

Better to just pay the fees and have a safe place to park your car.

All I can say is it's great to have a business where you have people over a barrel. After I take my licking from paying the exceedingly high parking fee, I will ask for contact info for the parking lot owner and let them have a piece of my mind!

The parking lot owner is the governmental agency, the Canaveral Port Authority. You go ahead and call them, have fun with that.

And at least get your facts straight, it's $15 a night for parking, not $14.

Near the port in Seattle there are hotels that offer a "park and stay" package. If you stay there the night before your cruise, you can leave your car there until you return.

You might want to see if any hotels near the port offer the same thing. Of course you'll have to weigh the differences in final cost.

You might also want to look into taking a bus from Orlando to the port.

There are a few hotels around the port that offer park and stay--the Ramada comes to mind. There is no bus service from Orlando to Port Canaveral. Greyhound runs out to Melbourne and Titusville, but then you'd need a cab, and by the time you bought bus tickets and paid cab fare, you might as well drive and park.

Thanks for the bus info. I know Disney Cruise Line has busses that go back and forth. I wasn't sure about the others.

EDIT: I just looked up the prices for the private shuttles going back an forth between Orlando and the Port and you're much better off paying to park there.
