After 15 years we are thrilled to move back to Central Florida. We lived in Lake Mary but I know much has changed. We will buy a home in the best High School district we can find. What High Schools do you consider the best in the Orlando / Central Florida area. I can live anywhere with my job. Seminole County or Orange County are preferred but we are open other areas with a Great High School.

Thanks!

According to Schooldigger.com, which bases their rankings only on student test scores, these are the top ten public, non-charter high schools in the four county Orlando metro area:

1. Winter Park High, Winter Park
2. Olympia High, Orlando
3. Hagerty High School, Oviedo
4. Timber Creek High, Avalon Park
5. Oviedo High School, Oviedo
6. Lake Nona High, Orlando
7. Lake Brantley High School, Altamonte Springs
8. University High, Orlando
9. Lake Mary High School, Lake Mary
10. Seminole High School, Sanford

Actually SchoolDigger ranks solely on test score and does not factor other criteria such as student-teacher ratio or "college readiness" which US News factors in conjunction with test scores. Only Lyman HS (#27) and Seminole HS (#34) were among the traditional high schools in Central Florida ranked in the state's Top 100.

Interestingly, I took a quick gander at the U.S. News and World Report Rankings and theirs was a bit different.

The top 5 for the Orlando Metro is as follows:

1. Osceola County School For The Arts - Kissimmee
2. Lyman High School - Longwood
3. Seminole High School - Sanford
4. Freedom High School - Orlando
5. Crooms Academay - Sanford

I was too lazy to sift through the whole list to make a top 10. Anyway, it would be interesting to see what kind of criteria and objective measures each ranking uses to formulate their top rankings. I graduated from a high school that was formerly ranked in the Top 100 in the nation, back then they seemed to make the U.S. News rankings as the gold standard for rankings. But then again that was the prehistoric/pre-internet years...

Whoops, sorry Kyle, I did not notice you already pointed out the U.S. News Rankings.
I guess that school for the arts in Kissimmee is actually the top school in the Orlando Metro?
I never even heard of it...I guess I'll be moving to Kissimmee before my kids reach high school age then

Actually , I was curious and checked the rankings in schooldigger as well. It turns out they may have more in common with the US News rankings than I previously thought. The actual top 5 is noted below for the Orlando Metro area.

1. Osceola County School For The Arts
2. Winter Park High
3. Crooms Academy
4. Olympia
5. Hagerty
