We like the Wekiwa area - we're looking for something where you can get away from it all a little, have some space between you and your neighbors, and be near lots of walking/biking paths. But if the job is in Southchase, is that too far of a daily drive? What other options would you suggest? We want a fairly large backyard (at least 1/3 of an acre - that's big compared to where we come from ) if possible. Price range less than 300K.

I'd suggest looking in Tuscawilla which is a planned community similar to Wekiva in Winter Springs, and would be an easier commute via the 417 versus I-4 which is going to be undergoing a massive widening project soon. It's roughly 40 minutes to Southchase. If you can bump your price range into the 310K-320K asking price category (negotiable) you'll up the options a bit.

That's a horrible commute plus the expense of tolls, why not something in hunters creek or winter garden?

I think he made the suggestion based on my description of the house/neighborhood feel we want. We don't care about the tolls, but is the commute really that bad?

It can be if there are accidents at the 408 or 528 interchanges which do happen from time to time. And of course, obt is a perpetual parking lot during peak commuting hours.

Just for kicks, check Google maps at 4 pm on a Friday and see what you think about the traffic and commuting time

Yes, we will do that. Thank you for the tip. We are from Chicago where traffic is a real nightmare, so it will be interesting for us to see how the traffic there compares.

No it's not bad at all. For anyone who has lived in most any other major metro area you'll find the traffic here a breeze. Many who are from here find anything over 20-30 minutes to work atrocious and there are a good number who avoid tolls at all costs and will be dumbfounded that you would choose to live someplace reliant on tolls to/from work. The 417 moves at posted speeds a vast majority of the time and like any highway can see accidents that will slow everything down. Lake Nona could be an option for you but bear in mind there is next to nothing there as it's a newly built area and is also lacking in the established look in terms of mature trees/landscaping or lot size (i.e. homes built with not a lot of space between them and sporadic one foot tall plantings) and has nowhere near the feel of Wekiva or Tuscawilla.

We will take a drive through it, but looking at it from afar, it doesn't really float our boat. We are not excited to live near any airport, and as Kyle19125 says, the houses we saw online are all pretty close together and there are no mature trees anywhere. Not our taste at all.

But we are open minded and intend to look at everything before we make any final decisions. We are just trying to get people's opinions on the best options to try and narrow it down a little.
