Hi Guys,
We will be moving to Florida next year once our green cards are processed. It has taken us 12 years to get the card and the only way we are eligible is by having my brother who is a US citizen sponsor me, so any Brits who think its easy to relocate to the US think again. We will be coming over in September on vacation and we want to check out a few small towns within commuting distance of Orlando. Mount Dora and Lake Mary have been recommended to us and I just wondered if there were a few similar towns we can check out. Initially we will rent for the first 12 months and then hopefully purchase a single family home once we are established, can anyone recommend a nice apartment complex or an agent who could find us a nice single family home to rent in the kissimmee area We are looking to spend up to $300k on a property, is this sufficient to purchase a 3 bedroom single family home in a nice area, I've checked on line and there seem to be some really nice homes for sale in this price range. Schools are not an issue we are just looking for a nice safe, quiet neighborhood. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to offer. Lee |

Maitland, Winter Park, Winter Springs and Oviedo are nice. Winter Park can be expensive though.

Mount Dora is small and feels more independent of Orlando.
Lake Mary is more connected and a suburb or Orlando. Some medium sized towns that feel like a smaller town are Lakeland, Melbourne or Ocala. There is also the option of Deland. I do not know if you have to commute though into the city, because if you do, I would avoid small towns that rely on I-4 to get into Orlando. |

Sorry you asked for commutable =)
I would stay in the metro area and take the prior poster's advice! |
