Wanted to check out some nice neighborhoods while I am on vacation in Orlando and Miami. In case you are wondering, I just plan to drive around and check out some nice houses (something we like to do while we are on vacation). No plan to break into any of them.

Lake Adair in College Park, the Main Street in Baldwin Park, Palmer and Park Avenue in Winter Park, Marks or Park Lake Street in Colonialtown, Lake Davis area, Hoffner in Belle Isle, or if you can find areas without gates, Heathrow and Windermere are very impressive too!

Ah never considered that, are many of these places gated?

In Miami -- Miami Beach (specifically along the bay side of the island), Key Biscayne, then in between Coconut Grove & Pinecrest (including Coral Gables & S Miami).

Do the drive on Old Cutler Rd south from C Grove to about Matheson Hammock. Then cut through the neighborhoods to about University of Miami area, drive past the Biltmore Hotel and down Alhambra to grab some lunch downtown C Gables -- BEAUTIFUL!

My observation is that most of the old money type of places like Winter Park and Colonialtown, Delaney Park, and College Park are not.
Parts of Belle Isle are, and most of the nicer parts of Heathrow, Windermere and Bay Hill are gated as well. What is funny to me, is with the exception of Isleworth, most of the houses you can drive right in front are nicer than a lot of houses behind gates. It is not necessarily the nicest of the nice always behind gates here IMO.

The high priced homes can be found in Windermere and also Celebration. It depends on what your price range is through. If you like lake front million dollar homes with great views then there are some great places in Winter Garden aswell. If its just for curiosity and not to buy, i would suggest just finding these towns on the map and taking a drive around. If your looking to buy then you may want to give a realtor your details so that we can send you a list of homes first before you arrive. Just out of curiosity where are you guys from?

Most of the million dollar plus estates in Miami Beach are on gated islands. The best way to see them is from the water.

If you are driving from /to Orlando from Miami take a few hours to stop in Palm Beach (the island) Some of the most spectacular mansions in the world, especially on the ocean and very few are gated.

Those newer ones aren't but many homes that are just as nicer or nicer you could walk right up to in Winter Park.
