Hi,

I'm a college student from Boston and I have recently accepted a job offer in Orlando. The company is right next to Lake Baldwin. I am looking to rent a place that is inexpensive, but in a safe area near my workplace. Which areas near Lake Baldwin are safe and offer relatively inexpensive housing options?

Thank you for your help!

Nick

Baldwin Park (32814) is very safe area, adjacent to a dumpier less safe area 32807.
Some people do not like Baldwin Park given the contrived Stepford feel, but it is charming in its own way as well. It is a new urbanist styled area developed where an old naval base used to be.
It is not the most affordable though. 32803 is a more affordable zip code with rental properties and apartments adjacent to Baldwin Park. What is your range and how far are you willing to commute? With the limited information I have I would look in these zip codes 32814, 32803, and possibly 32789 (this one can be pricier though).

You have very good options very close to your work. As Wilshire stated 32803 is a good place to look. This includes the downtown neighborhoods of Colonialtowne, Park Lake Highland and North Eola. I would check on Craiglists for rentals. In these neighborhoods price is just matter of nice. There are older multi-units, in-law suites and duplexes in these areas that are fairly affordable. It will be a very easy commute to your work. However, if you need a larger more modern living space try some of the apartment complexes on Semoran near the back entrance of Baldwin Park, there are many choices.

Also try looking north of Lake Baldwin in the Winter Park/Casselberry area. You may also want to look in College Park.

What part of Boston are you coming from? Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice! I will definitely look into those zip codes.

Wilshire81182, I would be willing to travel ~30 minutes each way, and as for my price range, I was looking to pay < $800/month...

Crane's Rooster, I am from the Dedham/Norwood area.

Thanks again!

If you're willing to travel up to 30 minutes look into Altamonte also although you should be able to find something in 32803 or College Park in your price range. I have seen mother in law suites and duplexes going for a about $750 in 32803. If you consider getting a roommate you may be able to get something in that price range easily.

I work in Altamonte and drive each day from downtown....going the way I go it takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes each way., However the opposite side I feel sorry for as it is at a standstill from downtown all the way past 436. People I know who make that commute say it's usually around an hour each way.

Pretty much everything near Lake Baldwin is very safe. Affordable may be a bit harder to come by since it's essentially in Winter Park which is probably the most expensive area in Orlando. Baldwin Park is a massive new community (which is probably where your office will be located) and it has tons of apartments that probably start around $800-900 per month. There are also affordable condos/apartments just down the street in the Aloma ave and Semoran blvd areas.
