all large cities are like that. people come and go and some come and stay. It really depends on the people not the city. Like i said, you may just see it a lot because your living in a development that didn't really get a chance to get established due to the recession hitting right after it was built, and because of all the people who lived there who shouldn't of received the loans they did to move there.

I agree ....Orlando has a way better vibe going on because u have two different worlds going on there...you have the city and touristland where u can get away from things if neccesary ...and the beach really isnt too far away on either side....i went to Tampa a bunch of times and i just didnt like it that much....its got a weird feeling to it like its a bunch of country old Florida suburbs all formed together to create a big city because of the amount of people in the area...the only good things over there i found were the beaches and the Hard Rock casino if u are into that...other than that ...it was really dead feeling on a wednesday night when i went to Ybor city one week and then i came back a couple more times to visit other areas of Tampa to see if that was a fluke that one night and sad to say it was the norm as a visitor looking for the good spots to do things.....Orlando has plenty of things to do and many different kind of feels to it in different areas and that is why i think it is so unique and keeps growing with people moving in from Miami and Tampa and other areas in Florida

Orlando's the same. It's neighborhood after neighborhood. I dont see how that's any different from what you say and unfortunately all all of these these little suburbs in both Tampa and Orlando are far from "country" - more NY/northern/midwestern and latin influenced.

Eh, not always. I live in a "new subdivision." The oldest house on my street was built in 2001, the last one was finished in 2006. Only two of the 10 aren't original owners, and seven of 10 currently here plan on staying here for at least another 10 years. The overwhelming majority of homes in my neighborhood are still occupied by the original owners.

1) It is much more urban than most beach towns, except South Florida and areas around naples. There are a lot of great entertainment outlets and amenities.

2) It is centrally located and convenient to most of those other areas and safer from hurricanes.

3) More jobs and education options brought me here over other areas of the state when I originally moved.

Compared to Tampa, Orlando is younger, has better ethnic restaurants, has better nightlife, pretty historic areas downtown and in Winter Park, and has better shopping. I love the beach, but the city here is more fun. Even though it is small it feels more like a proper downtown.

Miami is a much larger and more cosmopolitan city, however it is almost entirely Spanish down there. It is also far more expensive to enjoy a night out. I love Orlando's bar scene because you can do a lot and go to many places without spending a fortune.

* I meant around Tampa, like Clearwater.

I work in Orlando during the week and go home to Venice/Sarasota area on weekends. I like the vibe of Orlando. Orlando has more work. There are some nice areas in Orlando area. Mentally, I have to get past the idea that not all of Florida is a beach and palm tree area.

I do like the escape of the coast in my area but I can't vouch for Tampa. Tampa isn't really the coast anyway. You need to talk about Clearwater or St. Pete for that.

We do live a stones throw from the gulf but don't go to the beach as much as we "thought" we would.

I will say on thing it is hotter in the summer and colder in the winter in Orlando.

I think annerk and I have this discussion on community before. Her area may be like that but I do find that most of Florida is more transient and has less community that I knew back home. That being said I realize that when we moved here we moved away from family and friends. You have to start all over again. I have volunteered at local stuff and have met people that way.
