My peeve today is, unfortunately, with Mother Nature!
What is all of this baking she feels compelled to be doing at the start of Summer?
UGH, but in the upper 90s here, with heat indexes over 105. So hard to do much of anything. Yard work is definitely o-u-t, and I swannee but I can work up a sweat trying to do things even in the house in the a/c. The water in the neighborhood pool is not even refreshing -- feels like I have drawn a warm bath.
If so, I can add two cents' worth to that too -- getting sick when away on vacation. I want to scream when I realize, aboard an airplane, that I am sitting within close proximity to someone who is sick. I have the world's weakest immune system, it seems, and I catch anything these days.
I never felt so bad for fellow passengers, as the year I traveled home, sick-as-a-dog, with a bag between my knees. I had NO idea until I was aboard the transport bus to the airport, and then I am begging my companion to find me a bag, and quick! When I boarded the plane, I asked the attendants to move me to the furthest corner away from everybody -- for the other passengers' sake. Two legs to the trip, so I had to hang out in the public restroom of the airport between flights -- on my knees for easy access to the toilet, and to pray for some relief.
When I could smile, I told my daughter, who was 10, it was miserable traveling home from a fun week in Disney World with what we called The Mickey Mouse flu. I was sick for a solid week when we got home, and the next week, it hit her, poor thing. She became dehydrated so quickly until she was hospitalized for two days.
If you were aboard those two planes with me all those years ago, please accept my sincerest apology.
DH and I went to Vegas for about 3 days one time. After the long flight, we got to the hotel, checked in, and he was down with a sinus headache. Our first day was shot....poor guy.
same thing here Lisa with bronchitis with the sinus infection...when we left home we were just fine...PLANE GERMS. When we were supposed to be out enjoying the night life we kept falling asleep and missed out on so much. We would lie down for a few minutes and before we knew it it was the next day.
It happens to me once in awhile. Last year, in fact.
People were sick all around me at work, and I had this bad feeling that I was going to catch it from one particular person that went in with a fever. I didn't feel that good when we got to New Orleans a few days later, but I came back with pneumonia!
Lacey u r rocking on these peeves- Vacation should be enjoyed it totally sucks to get there and not feel well and then try to have fun anyway or feel guilty or left behind if u don't.
Years ago shortly after getting married, we left for vacation in the Black Hills and while on the trip I was sick half of the two week trip. When returning to work my supervisor asked how the trip went. I told “her” things were ok and enjoyable but I came down with the flu for four or five days. However I was happy to be back to work and things overall were pretty good.
Her reply,,,,, “I have to correct your timesheets to reflect sick days instead of vacation time”. When I told her that wasn’t necessary she responded with “yes it is,,, when you have vacation time away from the company you should get refreshed and re-energized for when you return to work.”
I enjoyed another week off that year. However I always worked like hell because of the management motivation in those years and after. Good management makes things happen. Quality of work life then was unbelievable!
Got zero sleep the night before my Vegas flight. Was nearly sleep-walking after my plane landed. That feeling lasted for nearly 2 days, which left me four days to be alert. Well, I was alert the third day, then got dizzy and nearly dehydrated (even after drinking water) on the third day. The lady trying to sell me time-shares that day seemed alarmed, but I assured her I'd be okay. Made it to dinner and the Doo Wop concert later that evening (one of the groups was the Drifters). Then I took to my hotel bed in exhaustion.
Man, it wasn't like that a few years ago. I was go, go, go then. Maybe it was the heat plus the onset of "middle-age" last time, but that vacation was ... different. Nice, but definitely different.
