If we are talking about purses, it's because our pockets are not large enough to carry the items we need such as ...
1. wallet
2. comb (I have flyaway hair)
3. lipstick
4. foundation
5. hearing aid batteries (a necessity for me)
6. bus schedules (as I use mass transit)
7. breath mints (to freshen up after lunch)
8. keys
9. hand sanitizer
10. gate opener
11. bus/train pass
12. pens
13. Aspirin (never know when ya need it - like I did two days ago ...)
Do you have a better suggestion for carrying those items besides a purse??
Why do woman carry those heavy things.. It makes their butts look smaller

They don't have a butt
Who knows. I hardly ever use a purse and the one of have is pretty small. There is no reason to lug a bunch of junk around unless you think you will end up on "Let's Make A Deal"
I only carry money (mine has a built in wallet for bills, change and discount cards) a pen, and a couple of pieces of gum. My keys are on a hook on my jeans.
Well, they are just for the bare necessities, like Chatteress mentioned. I have discovered no matter what size purse i have, tiny, medium, or huge, after enough time, it is stuffed full of all those essentials.
In my early 20s, I never carried a purse. I would just stuff my license and bank card in my pocket and go. I cringe when I think about those days.
Now I have a BAG. I have a couple that I trade off, depending on what I'm doing. Love them.
PS - Don't ever go into a woman's purse unless she gives you permission. Huge pet peeve.
