I sent this to my son a few days ago--he is well acquainted with firearms. He says he thinks the gun shoots blanks because there was no recoil. Regardless, it's still funny.

Are you kidding me? Unbelievable. Is that like gorilla warfare?

CB, the AK-47's recoil is light because it's a semi-automatic rifle, and the internal mechanism that ejects the empty cases, like most semi-automatic rifles, it uses pressure from the round to operate, and it needs the bullet inside the barrel to build enough pressure to operate the gas piston, it also absorbs the recoil. I don't think they were blank rounds, those guys in the video had a reason to run, and in my opinion, it was pretty stupid to give such a weapon to a monkey.

I won't tell my son but I think you are right, Mike as I thought the reaction of the men was genuine as they scrambled to get away. I'm not firearm savvy at all but we can all agree on the stupidity of giving a monkey an AK-47.

This video is viral marketing for the forthcoming Planet of the Apes movie, folks. The citation of "20th Century Fox Research Laboratory" is the giveaway, as is the YouTube channel where it was posted.

Also, the critter is a chimpanzee--an ape, not a monkey. Although they are both primates, apes and monkeys are very different from each other. One easy way to tell the difference is that apes do not have tails.

Don't shoot the messenger!
