Cmon people, spiders are not vile creatures, humans are. Theres nothing to be afraid of unless its a black widow or a Brazilian wandering spider, even then your odds of dying from its bite are less than dying from lightning strike. Let that sink in for a minute....

And a 4" spider isnt all that big. There is a tarantula in South America (Theraphosa blondi) that can have a 12" leg span. In other words, it can span a dinner plate. Now THATS a spider.

There is common misconception that finding something disgusting is the same as being afraid of it. That's simply not correct. An example:
I'd be afraid if there was a tiger in my house - but I love tigers and think they are beautiful. As for spiders - I know that most of them are not dangerous, I just feel an instant and unbeatable disgust whenever I see one. Can't help it. Honestly tried it but can't.

Once, in Death Valley, near the ghost town of Greenwater, I encountered a big hairy spider about the size of a child's fist.

Doubtless, influenced by some bad old movie, I poked it gently with a stick. I suppose I was expecting it to rear up and hiss, or do something entertaining.

But it just kept moseying along, in a slightly different direction.

Four foot spider? Seems rather awkward....
