2 wood stoves and a fireplace here - and 8 cords ready to go! Tons of work (literally) but I wouldn't heat any other way.

We have 3 fireplaces, only one working, and its gas, oh the shame, I know. LOL The other 3 are blocked off, not even to put a plant or candles in there.

Buuuut.....I love having the mantels. One in the LR, one in the DR, and one in my BR

I've never lived anywhere that had a fireplace. When I lived in NY, I was in a apt so not even there.

Sometimes I feel like buying one of those fake electric ones just for the look. I also like the mantel space so I can put pictures and stuff on there (like I need more dust collectors!). :-))

I really, really, really wish I had a fireplace. In time I am thinking of having one installed in our basement family room. Can't beat a good fire when it's below zero outside

My brother's house in England has the orginal Victorian fireplaces. They are gorgeous beyond belief.

Our old house had a regular fireplace on the main floor, and a gas fireplace in the master bedroom.
We used the regular one mostly around the holidays; Denver had certain rules about air pollution.
We used the gas bedroom one all the time, both for warmth and for romance.
I find fires so romantic when the lights are turned off.
We have a gas fireplace here in what I suppose is called the "great room" but it is not working right yet. We need to get that taken care of, there are no kids hanging around the house to disturb us.

We have always had fireplaces. They add a certain ambiance to a room and
I have just always enjoyed them.
The fireplace in our current house is gas. It bothered me at first, but in the dry conditions and the cooler weather I don't have to put the Fire Dept on standby

In many areas (outside of a city), a house just isnt a home without that warm, cozy fireplace.

Yup, even in So. Florida we LOVE our woodburning fireplace!! Have fires every cool day, and just like OP, sometimes "cheat" and turn down the a/c - not very often, though, that gets EXPENSIVE!

Both of our previous houses had fireplaces in the master bedrooms--and we really miss the romantic aspect of that..

BTW - I use those credit card app's. that come in the mail to get the fire going !!! And we got this cool old wire, long-handled popcorn popper from an antique store...the best popcorn ever!!!!!
