I like formica. Electric stoves, not so much.

I remember croquet.

and playing horseshoes, which I was pretty good at.

My friends growing up had a large metal tub mom / grandmother would wash the girls in the kitchen using the wood cook stove that had a hot water tank on the side.. Same for the boys.. dad or granddad would do those choirs.. 1-2 maybe 3 times a week.. till age 6-7 when they got older PE at school supplied the showers..

I remember asking Dad, who was about to get semi-rich selling TV sets, why the dentist down the street had a 7" Sylivania (if I recall right) TV and we didn't. He said to wait a few days. A week or so later he had a pretty huge box with a GREAT BIG 10" screen delivered! After that, we got a TV every few months until we settled on a 21", then the biggest. Similar experience when color was introduced.

...when there were no zip codes. You just put a one or two-digit number between the city and state.

(Actually, I'm so old TV hadn't been invented yet. We had a radio for entertainment.)

I remember 5¢ White Castle Hamburgers. The smell of the meat and onions sizzling on the grill was superb. During the winter I would walk to a nearby store on 79th street in Chicago, and take in the warmth and wonderful smells.

While the memory has lasted over the years, my appreciation for this burger has waned.

My mom used to bathe my older brothers in a tub in front of the coal stove when it was cold.

Ha! Yah, "entertainment" was limited back in the day.
