I remember when it was called "pizza pie" and not just "pizza".

I remember when we could play outside until 8pm when the town curfew (loud horn) went off and all kids had to go home.

I remember when a popsicle was 5 cents and a comic book was 10 cents.

I remember when everyone had to have a Raleigh 3 speed bicycle in elementary school and I remember when no one would be caught dead riding a bicycle in high school.

I remember the dentist letting me mix the material for the fillings in a little bowl -- silver mercury power that had bubbles. Toxic or what!

I remember on broiling hot summer days, popping tar bubbles by the side of the road.

I remember Wyatt Earp and Cheyenne on tv.

I remember bubble cuts in high school.

I remember felt skirts in junior high.

I remember getting a cat for FREE from the SPCA and you weren't required to do anything, not even promise to keep it inside. Cats went outside in those days.

I remember seeing my gram off on the Queen Mary in NYC and waving from the pier. It didn't cost that much back then since planes weren't that common.

I remember when Sputnik went up and Eisenhower said we'd all have to learn more math and science.

I had never heard of pizza either, until I was in high school. Had one and it's been my favorite food ever since.

I remember girls' clothing styles--

poofy sleeves when you were a little kid
cotton sun dresses
cotton halter tops in summer
pedal pushers
matching mother and daughter dresses
Pop it beads
straw hats with make believe fruit for church
red rubber boots with straps in winter

junior high--full skirts with layers of crinolines
orlon sweaters
brown and white oxfords or white bucks
aqua leather jackets that everyone had to have one year
color combos--pink and gray was very big one year, yellow and gray.
Shingle cut
Italian cut--was there another name for it?
Spoolies
Cinch belts
little white cotton gloves to go shopping

High school
page boy or bubble cut
Sky Blue Pink lipstick
"tight" skirts
rounded collars
flats
garter belts
penny loafers
angora tie on hats in winter
shirtwaist dresses loaded with scratchy crinolines
starching your crinolines
no pants for girls in school so you would freeze in winter
getting Evening in Paris perfume as a gift, constantly
Clearasil and Cuticura
Bermuda shorts, Jamaica shorts.

Ha! It is good.

Remember that Dean Martin song, "When the moon hits your eye like a big ______pie it's amore." Well, because I had never heard of pizza I thought it was a big "piece of pie." Just figured out that it must have been a big PIZZA pie.

Living in the Big City and not having parents who were afraid of the boogie man.
Living through school without the need to antibacterial everything.
Parents being held accountable when their child causes trouble in school.
Parents being held accountable when their child is failing in school.
Having more common sense than our kids.
