Thousands of young girls had to wear plaid uniforms to school. Back when there were dress codes for schools.
My dad used to wear business suits with multiple layers of plaid. He looked a little like the Herb Tarlek character on WKRP in Cincinnati. When we would ask him if he wasn't wearing maybe just a little too much plaid, it seemed to hurt his feelings.
People dressed a lot more flashy in those days then they do today, but I'm not sure that was necessarily a bad thing.

Okay, rolling back on plaid. I recall I had a wonderful dark blue and green (tartan pattern) skirt.
But seriously - seersucker! No one can argue about that.

People seemed to have more regard for what they wore in public or to their jobs in decades past. When I was a young child (1940's) my mother wore a hat, stockings, nice shoes, a nice dress and carried a nice looking purse when we went downtown to shop.
Had to physically remove your car's stereo to stop it from getting stolen...
Almost caused a 15-car pileup trying to find the perfect CD...
Had to set the TV to channel 3 just to watch movies...
Drove a car that needed TWO keys just to unlock the doors and then get it running...
Waited days for your pictures to develop only to find out they were all of your thumb...
Waited for days for vacation photos to develop, only to learn that three 36-frame rolls didn't engage.
Will never forget when Long"s Drugs lost some baby photos I had taken. They never did find that packet.
