Good to hear from you...................I truly am sorry that your area was hit so hard with this freakest weather.
I hope the damage (trees, fences etc) at your place was minimal. Did you have any source for power to keep your refrigerator/freezer from thawing?
What about loses to live stock and wildlife?..........any info in that regard?
Only once in all my years of living in northern Illinois, Colorado and Montana, have I been in a situation similiar to yours. Back in approx 1961 the county we lived in, in far northern Illinois was hit with a Freezing Rain/Ice Storm that did extensive damage over an area about 80 miles wide by 200 miles long. Power was out for about 80 hours. We had two wood burning fireplaces in the house which helped greatly since the temp after the first 24 hrs dropped at night into the single digets. Had a small generator to supply power to the frig and we used the water buckets from the "Sump Pump" system we had in the basement to flush the toilet, and used a Coleman Camping Stove for cooking. Our 7 year old daughter thought "it was great".......she put on her ice skates and skated down the county road to her girl friend's house to check on them.
Here on the Plateau of Tennessee It's a chilly 30 degrees.. a beautiful day in the neighborhood.. the throng of chain saws in the air.. and cows blatting ... and the PA systems from the power trucks fill the air...
We've got around 3" of snow in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The number of vehicle accidents is very high. We have icy/snowy weather so seldom and folks don't know how to drive on it. I'm glad I'm retired and don't have to get out in it.
