Please take a moment this weekend to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day. It is so much more than just a trip to the beach, and/or big sales at the store.
Remember our countrymen and women who have given their lives to defend our country. From the late 1700's right up to today, no matter what your beliefs are... they deserve a thought on this weekend.
America can only be the land of the free, if it continues to be the home of the brave.
Exactly how I feel...remember the troops who so selflessly serve and make our world safe for us, with many sacrifices. We take so much for granted...I'm so grateful for the troops. Sending love and prayers to all serving in the military and their loved ones and love to all who have been lost in their kind service...
It is a shame they do not talk about memorial day in school anymore. It is just a long weekend for some and the end of the school year for others.
I will talk to my daughter about the true meaning of memorial day, I sure she knows but we will talk about again.. I agree with ILNC freedom is not free!! Have a safe weekend.
We are all going to a VFW service. Normally we go on the bike with the Military Vets (not this year unfortunately), then we all ride up to a cemetary where U.S and allied forces are buried that died in a concentration camp during the Second WW.
My father was a WWII vet. he was wounded in France in Nov. 1944. His brother, my Uncle (whom I never got to meet) also served in WWII. He died as a Prisoner of War in the Philippines in June, 1945 - after having survived the brutal Bataan Death March. I was in the Navy Reserve, and my daughter (honorbound, just like her mom...) felt the urge, and joined the US Coast Guard. I am proud of my family and of all those who have served.
Howdy all you C.D. junkies...
In all of our busy lives, it occurs to me that many forget the Historical meaning behind this less celebrated Holiday. Regardless of your feelings of the events we all now face, I would respectfully ask to take a moment over the weekend to show a moment of gratitude and respect for all those brave men and women that have given their lives to provide folks worldwide with a greater future and prosperity. If you cannot attend a parade, a cemetery service, or any other function, please just take a moment to appreciate what others have given to make all our lives better. And a huge thank you to all our Military Service members and families for your commitment and effort.
I feel so proud of all the soldiers and their families who surround me. They have been through some extemely tough times. It only makes me appreciate more the freedoms that I take for granted most days.
To those who have given life or limb, past and present I hold you all in such high regards. Thank you.
