Yes, agreed. Another way of looking at it is the Buddhist belief that no matter what the situation, every situation has both joy and pain.
Different from the Western belief, Buddhism says that Heaven and Hell are not separate places but are instead intertwined. In other words, Heaven and Hell is the metaphor for the Joy and Pain we all experience in Real life.

I'll never forget the stirring scene (one of many) in The Miracle Worker (1962) where Anne Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) describes being brought up in an asylum and says it made her strong.
