What are costs involved in your area? I think it is a racket. USA Today link didn't work right. But still I want to know how much you and your family are willing to spend on prom.

It is a huge scam. I have always wondered how these people justify pi$$ing away that kind of money on prom.
In this area they get limos and hotel rooms, for the night. How absolutely ridiculous. I know quite a few girls that have spent over $800.00 on their dresses alone.
What are the parents thinking, to allow & even encourage this??

Nuttin. Not one red cent. If they want prom, they can get a job.

The scam is the that kids try to out do each other & the parents buy into it.
And however you want to phrase it, it's asinine.

I spent about $250. And it was my own money. What are they buying with this $1000? My dress was $150 at the local mall shoes about $30 accesories about $50 and about $20 on makeup.

Agreed....peer pressure and then the parents are pressured.

I never went to my prom and am a well adjusted adult. Imagine that
