You get used to it. Even though I always spell it out, about half the time people write it down as Eric. Even when responding to me on this forum, people spell it Eric, and you can plainly see how it's spelled!
I learned whenever there are several "approved" spellings for a name, people will always misspell it, e.g. Tanya, Tonya, Tania, Tonia. That doesn't even include "original" spellings.

Yep. We decided to go with Claire instead of Clare (the family spelling) because we thought our daughter would spend her entire life telling people "oh it's Clare without an I"...but as it turns out, she gets Clare a lot anyway.
^^There's a thread about it on here too. It's not the worst name I can think of (or have heard, working in pediatrics). I tried to Google babies named after current events, but obviously am not using the correct words. I've heard of this happening before. I think there's a baby in my area named "Blizzard" or some such, for having been conceived during one of our big snows. I recall reading something in the paper about it.
