And... Wow! Is this a relatively new thing? I can't even stand needless I can't even imagine using blades to cut myself! Not that I haven't heard of it before but what could possibly entice someone to do this, especially in her case where she seems to view it as some kind of badge of honor!

I don't want to watch the video, but self harming is as old as time itself. And sadly too common with mentally ill people.

The people I have spoken to about cutting say that making the pain a physical one helps them because they are in so much emotional pain. It's a way of making the pain external to themselves instead of internal. It does calm them for a short while as she said, but mostly, I think that cutters need help to find better ways to stop the emotional pain, anger or frustration they feel.

It also releases endorphins that help you feel better ...but it is very serious and should be addressed with professionals for sure.
