I'm a sucker for the classics: Elizabeth, Margaret, John, Andrew, Caroline, etc.

My short list included Alexandra, Genevieve and Samantha. For boys, Derek, Bradley and Steven.

That doesn't mean I can't like the names, does it?

David, James, and Joseph, by the way, were ranked #19, #5, and #20 in 2016, so they're far from being gone yet (though they did indeed peak in the 40s and 50s). Kevin is also still in the top 100. Brian and Bradley were actually most popular in 1972 and 1980 respectively.

Edit to add: I can't believe I forgot Doug on my list!

Of course you can like them! "James" wasn't on your list, "Jim" was. People may name their kids James, but they call them either James or Jamie. People tend to call "Joseph", well, Joseph, not Joe or Joey.

This is true. I know three teenagers named James, including my nephew, and they all go by James. Not a Jim or Jimmy among them.

Dweezil and Moon Unit are the first names that Frank Zappa gave two of his children.
