So,I have a daughter that is 5 yr old and we have decided we would like to try and have a sibling for her. I will be about 40 - 41 when the baby arrives if I am lucky enough to get pregnant! Most of our friends and family say to go for it as well as my doctor. I would really like a unbiased opinion about it and advice if anyone has gone this route before. Thanks for the input!

I know a LOT of women who have babies later in life. They are all VERY happy!

Go for it!

If you are healthy and have enough energy, go for it! You already have a 5 year old, so you still have fresh memories, i hope LOL

I'm 40, and will not have a child. While I have energy and healthy, i want to live now for myself, my son is 18 and i don't want to start all over.

Good luck!

I was 38 when my youngest child was born. He's 12 now and while the pregnancy and delivery were difficult (he was my 4th c-section and my heaviest baby), he's also been the easiest to care for. I think I enjoy him more, knowing he's the last one, too.

I was 39 when our son was born and I wouldn't change that fact for anything! We are much more stable and patient than we would have been as young parents. We haven't felt like we were missing out on anything since we have already traveled and lived a full "married with no kids" lifestyle.
A lot of our friends are 10 years younger than us but at this age it just doesn't seem to matter. We have a lot of the same likes and dislikes; probably based more on similar education and socio-economic factors than having kids the same ages.
I know everyone is different but my pregnancy couldn't have gone any smoother. I had no complications and delivered on my due date.
Best of luck to you and make your own decision. There will be plenty of nay sayers out there but pay them no heed. Just educate yourself on the risks and take all the precautions you need to.

I also had a baby at 39-our third child. So much easier to have older children help out. I was able to say-keep the baby happy-while I cooked etc.

Can't imagine the family without her-Good luck & go for it!

Yeah, but was it the age or the body just giving out after child #11!
