The age of consent is 16 in many places, but barring that, are older minors' (17) issues usually not taken with as much seriousness since they are so close to adulthood at that point?

Once your 17, your less than a year from being a legal adult.

What "issues" ? You mentioned "issues" as well as "age of consent" are you talking about shoplifting or being intimate with a bf/gf while under 18?

17 is considered an adult by the courts here in TX. Scares the chit out of me to be honest.

In Pennsylvania, a 14 year old has a right to refuse medical and mental health treatment and medication.

I'm going to guess that you're asking if parents are less concerned with issues like drinking or experimenting with marijuania if a teen is 17 as opposed to 13.

To some extent, I'd say that parents do tend to back off the 17 year olds and allow them to make their own decisions and mistakes.

Experimenting or having drink at a senior graduation party is not ideal, but a parent isn't going to worry an otherwise good teen is heading down the path of ruin.

A 13 year old doing the same thing is a different story entirely.

Issues or charges? Not taken seriously by the courts or by the parents?

Since the courts would be tougher on an older teen and the OP is asking the opposite, I'm guessing that the OP is discussing parenting, not legal court issues.

This is more in line with what I was thinking about. Not so much crimes, just normal teenager stuff.
