Man with explosive temper (pregnant, wife, child, friend)

Just announced his wife is pregnant.

I know I should be happy but not in the least. I am so worried for this yet to be born child. He is a distant relative and I have seen his temper flair over nothing at all. I am so worried for this child.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to be there for the child. The man makes me nervous so he is not someone I see on a daily basis.

The only thing I can see doing is to be friendly with the wife and be available to her as a resource and sympathetic ear. That way, if something happens, hopefully she'll confide in you.
