Suggestions of things to do in Southern Pennsylvania
Hi everyone! DH is going to PA on business next week (Chambersburg area to be exact) and I am looking for some good suggestions of stuff to do within a reasonable drive of that area. Definately want to check out Philly, and would like some recommendations on places to visit in the Amish country/Lancaster County. Also, Gettysburg is on the list for sure!
Can't wait to come visit your state...I have heard it is absolutely beautiful!!

Just so you know, Washington DC and also Baltimore is a good bit closer than Philly is to Chambersburg.
Do you have any particular interests - outdoors, history, military, chocolate, etc.?

Visit the town of intercourse they have a thing of like almost 40 shops. You can go to the market in Bird in Hand, I think it smells really good in there. Also in intercourse is a pretzel factory that sometimes offer tours. I went to Lancaster and was actually disappointed. Lancaster is way to commercialized. I come from farming country in Morrisons Cove and i pass more horse and buggys going up 866 then i saw down their. The farms are nicer here and the road side stands are nice here. Maybe im just spoiled but i didn't find lancaster anything special. I'm sure a city slicker would like it but i didn't. I even find Belleville and Alansville more Amish like.

Belleville and Allensville area is definitely more like what most folks view as Amish unless you're from the big cities. See Welcome for info. Beautiful drive through the mountains there from Chambersburg area as well, go a couple of different ways to see more.

Yeah and if you wanted to visit Belleville Wednesday is the day to do it. They have their flea market. Reedsville also does too. Though the past few years it has really gone down. Peachy's is good place to eat and so is a restaurant in Allensville i just dont know the name. It was a buffest and so much cheaper then a buffet in lancaster. In lancaster is was 18.99 per person.

Darn, I can't remember the name either, but it's right on the main drag (PA 655). I'll send folks there who are hiking on the nearby Standing Stone Trail - Official Site - a few days in the woods spurs the appetite for AYCE.

if you go to philly, check out these cheesesteak places:
1. Ishkabbibles (on south street across from the TLA)
2. Jim's Steaks (on south street)
3. Geno's (more touristy, on 9th and passyunk)
4. Pat's Steaks (across the street from geno's, they INVENTED the cheesesteak, you should make the pilgramige)
