Hi there! Thanks for this "guide"...hope it helps you help me!

When are you moving? within a month or 2
Where are you coming from? Port Huron, michigan
Why are you moving? many reasons!
Where will you be working? I will bartend part-time, and stay at home with my son the remainder of the time
Have you been here yet? no

Will you buy or rent? rent
If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? Any of the above. Possibly a small home, or 2 bedroom apt.
How much can you spend? no more than $650 a month
Do you prefer hi-rise or walk up? no high rise please!

Are you married or single? married
Do you have children? one 2 year old
Do you prefer public or private schools? public
Do you have pets? no
Do you want or need a yard? yes, ( even a small one! )
Are you keeping a car? yes
Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet? in between! More towards the quiet though...child friendly

What do you want to be closest to?
Work
Shopping
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Nightlife
Train or subway stations

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood? About the same as I.....30 yrs. old, white, Christian...but fun!

I would love to move to an area of Penn. that is suburban, but affordable with opportunity to make money, and definitely child friendly with community activities!! Not too small, but not too big either! Public transportation may be helpful at first. Thanks SO much for your help! Please don't hesitate to ask me questions if it could help!! God Bless! Audrey

Try Middletown, 17057. A town that still has the basic services within walking distance but not so bad commute to all of Harrisburg, York, Lancaster which are all more prosperous than state and national average. Not so high falutin' or scary as some of the neighboring towns.

Since you're asking about anywhere in the state, it's ok to generalize here. And in generalizing, the southeast area of the state is where the strong and varied economic exists, and therefore the jobs are. See that discussed here, starting a few posts down. Even that southeast area covers a lot of territory, so you might want something in a suburb, small town or outlying area, sustained by its proximity to a bigger area. There are lots of places that fall into this category.

Exceptions to the southeast are Scranton-Wilkes Barre (the Wyoming Valley), Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton (the Lehigh Valley) and Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. But I think all of them together, economically, don't match the south east area of the state.
