Geez, I am spoiled - Same amount of $$ for a similar property here, but with 10 acres of land included. I definitely vote for C, but A is a definite potential!

I never said I liked or supported Doherty. I pretty much dislike all politicians. They're a lying con artists who are only in it to line their pockets, Chris Doherty and Janet Evans included.
I will say one thing in Doherty's defense though. The roads are at least driveable since he's been in office. The roads were NEVER paved during Jimmy Connors' 12 years as mayor....and most Scranton roads were like the dark side of the moon, and they are much better now, most anyways. And garbage pickup is much more reliable anymore.
Plus, while the snow removal still could be much better (see the valentine's day storm debacle), at least there is SOME plowing these days...when Connors was mayor, they just didn't bother to plow the snow at all.

First Connors plowed and he did better than this DPW does. He was smart enough to put plows on the garbage trucks and almost doubled the size of the plow fleet by putting plows on anything that moved. Roads ok roads sure, the only roads that have seen any paving were state roads. The city streets are the worst that they have ever been. Make sure you figure out which is which first. Also make sure that the utilities did not do the paving either, it does not count due to a contract for utilities work, the city cannot take that credit but they do, right.

Thanks! LOL! Nope. I'm just a "naive, know-nothing college kid from the 'burbs with a chip on his shoulder." LOL! I'll soon be pursuing an internship with the Joint Urban Studies Center (JUSC) in Downtown Wilkes-Barre, a local think-tank that does demographic research on the region and releases regular reports for public, municipal, and corporate usage. One of their current pet projects is studying the financial situation in Nanticoke, in Luzerne County, which is currently under a distressed Act 47 status due to its mounting debt. As an Accounting major, having the opportunity to review that city's financial documents, analyzing them, and providing suggestions to get that community back on-track again sounds tantalizing! As we saw with the "Monroe County Growth" thread, I'm also a demographics junkie, and I can't wait to (hopefully) be chosen to work for the JUSC.
Eventually I hope to pursue a career as a real estate broker and relocation specialist for home buyers that are new to the region, and I'm going to be targeting my firm's market solely on our city and its nearby struggling urban core towns like Dunmore, Old Forge, Pittston, and Carbondale. I will not be promoting suburban housing developers or McMansions, no matter how lucrative those listings might be, as I will never "sell out" the city in favor of the Almighty Dollar. Semian & Gress is a Downtown Scranton firm that I admire quite a bit because they have an attractive office in the heart of the city and seem to have a monopoly on the city's historic housing stock in Green Ridge and the Hill Section. I might work for them initially until I can propel myself into my own firm, Electric City Realty.
I just foresee so many great things happening in this city in the upcoming years; it's just a shame that nobody else on this forum thinks Scranton is destined for anything other than disaster. Hey, if NBC thinks we're good enough for "The Office," Paul Sorvino thinks we're good enough for a new film office, Steinbrenner thinks we're good enough for the Yankees, and if SECCAS thinks we're good enough as a Wall Street West location for satellite NYC financial firms, then we must be doing something right.

Great stuff, SWB !!!
I really admire your drive and noble motivations !!!
As someone who has spent lots of time and personal money on trying
to improve the quality of life for my neighbors and township in SE-PA
I can really appreciate your efforts. We moved from PA to escape the
$$$$$$ McMansioning to VT. and it was a very bad decision. We have
to do 1 one year sentance in FLA. to help a parent who is an a bad way
but when it comes time for a final relocate I will certainly look at SWB
because I really miss PA. Anyone who complains about it obviously
hasnt traveled it alot because whatever you are looking for is only
going to be a short trip away. Ive lived in the Philly area, Lancaster
area and Pittsburgh and anything you are looking for, rural, progressive,
McMansion, city, redneck, hippy liberal....its all there..Very diverse !

Nothing was plowed, other than state roads, while Connors was mayor. People had to dig their own streets out after the blizzards, and every time it snowed, even a few days after a storm, no plows.....the roads would be completely cleaned off in Throop and Dickson City, yet when you hit the city line, you would see snow covered roads with nothing but tire tracks showing.
Like I said, I don't like Doherty, but Connors was a disaster as well. Scrantonians have a record of electing morons to office.
