LOL, this made me giggle a bit Oregon. Only because in my life time, I have heard the "end of America" soooo many times, yet we still manage to go on.
Just to name a few

1) Communist is going to destroy america (I had to hide underneath the desk during drills when I was a kid)
2) Bra burning feminist women were definitely the end of American families and America
3) Blacks getting equal rights? yep, going to destroy the country for sure.
4) Gays. solely going to be responsible for destroying American values and marriage.
5) Obama yep, we were all going to be Muslim and socialist
6) Now we are currently at Illegal Mexicans are going to do us in, with runner up "Millennials"

Of course the country you grew up is gone, it's supposed to be. If anything does not change it dies.

Personally I'll get concerned when the walmarts and churchs of the country fail to open. I wish I had a dollar for every time we're supposed to be destroyed.

That's all. just a question. I'll go back and check out your post. I apologize, I'm notorious for not checking in for a few days.

You are correct, I actually never think in terms of the planetary carrying capacity. not sure if it's because I'm not concerned with it, I can honestly say I've never had that discussion once in my life. I'm not an "eco" anything and haven't the slightest idea who Wayne Dryer is. I'll go back
Oh I believe you. And I believe that may very well be the case because it just wasn't considered a problem. Sure, environmental degradation has attracted some marginal attention since Rachel Carson's 1962 book Silent Spring, but I think it's only in very recent times that it's becoming a mainstream concern. Not coincidently, the need to "raise the alarm" has only increased in recent times too... certainly the natural consequence to so much growth and expansion, sometimes very reckless growth (Houston and Hurricane Harvey).

Technology has taken us to a place where face to face interaction is becoming non existent. We’re talking through computers and it’s dehumanizing. There’s more and more value placed on things, and less on relationships. I see that as a bad trend.

its not a terrible thing. i have taken note that i have employees who i know earn substantially less than me that drive significantly more fancy cars. its kind of natural to compare things. but i think it is better to simply hope for the best for them and just do what makes you happy. i guess there is often a tendency to have some jealousy but its a problem when it makes you bitter or makes you actually dislike people for their wealth. i guess im a little jealous of people that can have plenty of money but not work. i think it is great for them just not possible for me and many others.
I've definitely pondered this and I won't say it never happens to me, but again, I think this argument fails at capturing the complexity. Go back to my first post where I talk about resources and environmental degradation.

If we truly lived on a planet of infinite growth and resources, where we could have all that we want without it harming other people or other lifeforms then I wouldn't be living like I do.

look at you trying to find a loophole to excuse the jealousy.

If you pass your money down to your kids, and not make them earn it like you did, then yes they are and will be spoil brats. Nothing worst than parking beside some 20s kid driving a BMW showing off and going to go layout in the sun while somebody who working 16 hours a day driving around in a Ford Pinto. Put a clause in your will, telling them how to earn it the right way and be Humble about it. Pushing it in peoples face like the Crapdashians does makes the public want to throat punch them.

Sure. Whatever.

I guess I could say I'm "jealous" of the Silent and Boomer generations for having been able to live long lives where abundance had no known consequence. My Boomer mother simply wipes her hands off and announces "I've paid my dues!" and "Well, I won't be around then!" as my generation grapples with scientific discussions around concepts like human-induced "Holocene Extinction".

Man, to live a day without worrying... now that would be a luxury..

Do you have kids Capt?

I do.

If so, do you ever look at what researchers say will be normative weather patterns for your area?

I have. I follow what Cliff Mass, professor at University of Washington, says is happening and what will be happening in and around my corner of the country.. and it is very startling to hear about what is likely to be expected when my sons are in their 60's.

I love my kids. They are everything to me. And I do what I can to raise them well, keep them happy and safe... It's my job, my moral and biological obligation to lookout for them.... sense danger and prepare for it. I see the changes coming down the line that will be dangerous to lots and lots of individuals on this Earth. I understand why, and how, this danger is manifesting itself.

The biggest mistake you're making is that you think this is about me.
