I have a Amex Plenti Card and been informed it will be discontinued in February and my account will be cancelled. Has anyone ever had a credit card that was discontinued? My main american express account that started in 2006 will be fine but it's just this new card that started in June of 2017 that's coming to a end.

I've had, I think, two cards discontinued, with Citi, and they've just sent notice that they're going to move me to another roughly similar card. (Eventually ended up with a Thank You Preferred, and that one has stuck for a while)

If you find the second AmEx to be useful, you could ask them to move you to a no-fee Blue or EveryDay instead. (The double points on groceries, and the easily redeemable Membership Rewards points tend to tip that question to the EveryDay)

The funny thing is it says I can keep using it until feb 15th which makes no sense. lol That card has been officially removed from my wallet and not another purchase will be made after receiving that letter.

I had a Costco Amex that was cancelled when Costco switched to Visa from Citi. Citi issued a Visa to all of us that had that Amex. Amex then offered me a no fee Blue Cash Everyday Amex with the same credit limits as the replaced Amex. I took and use it because their cash rebates are excellent, as was their incentive bonus of $250 to sign up.

Yes other people have had cards cancelled by the issuer. Have you called Amex to inquire?

What was the reason for canceling the card and account?

I'm not sure why you find this so odd. Credit cards are like any other product; sometime a product will be discontinued for various reasons. I've got an AmEx card in my wallet right now that I know isn't going to be around much longer (Starwood Preferred Guest). The only thing that's slightly unusual in this case is that AmEx is simply closing the account rather than offering you a substitute card.

I've never had a credit card that was discontinued. So it is odd to me that could happen. Never heard of this before. Years ago I got AMEX card because it came with a card reader for shopping online so that the merchant would not see my actual card number. A few years later AMEX dropped that feature but the card was still good.
