I like to be able to tell the make just by looking, but they all look like Nissan Sentras nowadays!

Also, seems like many brands are going with huge brand logos now, like the huge Mercedes star on the grill. Not a fan.
actually i liked the fact mine actually read lexus in the back

In a matter if a few months, still those things broke?

Did you have another shop give a second opinion on the repairs? I've had dealerships try to pull a fast one on me and others before. Typically they prey on inexperienced drivers and not trying to be sexist but females.

They will also try to drum up a bunch of repairs to push the owner to consider getting a new car.

I think lemon laws only apply to certain things like engine and transmission maybe. I know that there are very strict rules and guidelines regarding lemon laws.

Well I have had problems with this car since rolling off the dealers lot. I should perhaps take the car into an independent shop to have it looked at. When I do trade it in, it won't be to Honda. I'll be giving Honda a very wide berth and will probably not go back.

It's PORSCHE!

Porsche, not Porshe.

Jared, if you don't mind my asking, what city/town/area do you do your driving? If NYC I understand your predicament..

Hi! I bought a 2020 Honda Accord back in 2020. I have had nothing but mechanical issues since day one with this car. 3 months ago the manufacturer warranty expired and I've been dumping money into repairs ever since.

At first I was making double and sometimes triple payments onto the car just to pay it off. Last month I got a pretty good bonus from work, which amounted to around $3k, of which I used to pay down the car. This year alone I've payed it down from $15k all the way to $6k.

Then the warranty expired and I'm having to divert all the funds to costly repairs.

Since day one I have had to bring this car into the dealership for countless repairs.

I have already had the suspension system replaced part by part.

First it was the front and rear struts. Then the front control arms.

Two months later it was the fuel pump and battery.

Shortly after that it was the rear control arms and shocks.

Now that the warranty expired, I've had to pay for the rear struts, again, plus the cv boots. This cost me around $1000 after Honda did a "goodwill" assistance, which covered half.

Yesterday I had to take it back because the driverside strut broke again. 13 months after they had replaced it. Just for parts and labor it will come out to $1200 and I'm told Honda most likely will not allow another goodwill assistance. I asked about warranty on the parts and labor they performed last July and I was told that it ends when the original manufacturer warranty expires.

My A/C compressor is also showing signs of failure. This will be a near future repair of around $2k.

And yesterday I decided that I was going to cut my losses and just trade the car in next year.

I know it's probably not the best financial decision I can make, but I feel that I'm just throwing good money after bad.

Right now I can get around $24k in trade in value for the car. I have substantial savings so I can use some of that to offset the car I'll be buying.

I figured I'd post here and see if I am making a terrible financial decision. However, I also want a reliable vehicle that won't break down on me.

Does it make sense to do this or should I just pay my Honda off and plan on making regular expensive repairs?

I should also add that, I baby this car. I was it every couple months. Hand wash it, use premium fuel, drive it with the utmost care and maintain it to the letter of Hondas recommendations.

I have a 2008 Acura TL and you have more repairs on your 2020 than I have had in 15 years. Besides regular maintenance, tires and brakes I have had to replace 3 door actuators, one engine mount, and I think one ball bearing. I have maintained it by the book too.

I traded in a 2000 Accord SE after the transmission had to be replaced for the 4th time.

I think you will want to unload that vehicle (unfortunately). I also get angry when I see the same year/model 2000 Accord still driving around (just not mine). Lemons happen.

Honestly, you could buy a 2008 Acura TL and pay cash. Take it to a dealer and bring it up to snuff. You can probably drive it another 10 years. They are very reliable. Some of these guys got 350k to 400k miles on them.
That's what I would do if my car was totaled right now. I might get the Type S from that same year.

I am considering buying a Japanese built Land Cruiser or the Lexus GX or even the 4Runner (the truck based SUVs are supposed to be similarly reliable) as my last vehicle. To buy my Acura with a V-6 would cost me $59k right now. The V6's are very good, proven engines.

I have kind of renovated my car over the years. Pulled out dings, repainted the rear bumper, replaced the carpet (throughout), a few new sets of floor mats, new license plate. I think the little repairs are what make people think they need a new car. All of that can be fixed and a car can look nearly new (stating the obvious - duh, I know, but...)... I spend about $1,500 a year maintaining my vehicle (including tires, brakes, body work, etc.).

Haha it's funny because I'm sorta renovating my 3 year old Accord as we speak! Rebuilding it from the bottom up, one expensive component at a time.

In all honesty, I'm dumbstruck at how unreliable this car has become. I've gone back n forth about dumping it and just paying it off. But I figured that if I keep it, I'll be making regular expensive repairs frequently. This car is fixer upper and needs to be owned by either someone who is rich or someone mechanically inclined that has the time and energy to put into it.

Who wants to restore a classic car when they can just rebuild this hunk of crap Honda? Lol.

I buy a lot of cars, too many according to my wife, I've never heard of so many suspension issues. Control arms don't just fail, struts should get you at least 60K miles, battery in Phoenix will need replace every ~3 years, fuel pump is a toss up - it's an electrical component that can fail, A/C compressor may just need recharging. Throw up a picture of your Accord - we owned one for 7 years and was the most reliable vehicle ever owned.

Once out of factory warranty - don't go to Honda for repairs.
