I agree that a credit union is a good possibility - and I'd want at least one bank with a brick-and-mortar presence that you could run into in an emergency.

I have a checking account with Wells Fargo, and they're pretty good.

No-fee ATM card, free checking with direct deposit, and my direct deposit hits my account as Available Funds a day early.

I've had accounts with Navy Federal and USAA (I know, not everyone is eligible to bank with these two institutions), and BoA as well. BoA was by far the worst as they started charging me a monthly fee once I no longer had direct deposit with them, even though I was depositing an equal amount monthly without direct deposit as I was with direct deposit; when I became an independent contractor, I was no longer eligible for direct deposit. I left BoA checking services after that and haven't looked back sense.

one can transfer an etf to chase and let them baby sit it and it qualifies for amounts needed for various perks

we moved our voo from vanguard to chase .

we let chase baby sit it and with a relatively small checking account we have private client status and got 10,000 credit card points at the time .

plus opened a sapphire reserve credit card and got 100,000 points .

all points were multiplied by 50% when used for travel thru chase expedia .

it was a move worth thousands of dollars

Yes, I do. I thought their banking services were only for investment accounts. I have investment accts there, but checking acct money is incoming SS and autopay and paying bills.

I'll check it out. Thanks! (I wonder how easy it is and fee-less to transfer money out to my savings acct, but I'll check.)

OMG. I had no idea! I can guess what it came out as!

Yes, I'm having trouble typing since getting new laptop. Not sure if it's the laptop or my fingernails, which I've grown longer for 1st time. I'll have to cut my pretty nails and see if that's better. But the keyboard keys seem too low and a little oddly spaced. So sorry!

Chase is currently offering a $200 bonus for opening a checking account.

Easy to qualify.

I'm probably not going to have that. I live in a burb outside a mid-sized city & will probably move soon.

A couple of regional banks nearby but they're behind the times for electronic transfers out and digital services. I have a small acct at one of them for paying local services.

But thanks for the advice, anyway!
