How do I really find my credit score? I'm hesitant to respond to those ads offering to find your credit score, how do you really know who they are and they won't misuse your information? also, they usually want you to sign up for a "free trial" offer of a newsletter or some other gimmick just to get your credit card number, then misuse that. I don't need another headache, I just want to know how to get my credit score!

Howe do I contact the credit breauss directly? I've tried gooogling them, but all I get are ads for stuffl like I mentioned.

Go to annualcreditreport.com

That is the official site that links directly to all three reporting agencies. You can, once every 12 months, pull a copy of your report for free from each of the 3 reporting agencies. For a fee, you can get your score.

All of the "free credit report" sites charge a fee to get your score, as far as I know, plus, they are only free if you sign up for a service. annualcreditreport.com is the only one I'm aware of that is truly "no strings attached".

They will ask you lots of personal questions to prove that you are you, so be ready for that. Like "how much do you owe on your Chase loan" or "what is your monthly mortgage payment".

Thanks!

We're in the process of getting a mortgage. Last time we were really horsed around by a lender, he said our score was "so low" we could only qualify for sub-prime. Huh? Our credit was 720! We went to another lender and got a mortgage approval the same day. Obviously the other place was trying to push subprime mortgages, which is what got us all in this real estate mess to begin with. Don't trus the mortgage to "play square" with you, back up with your own information search.

This is the only site that uses the same scoring model as commercial sources. If you go to another you may get a score but it could be evry different from what is pulled when you actually apply for credit.
