They have a bit of a reputation for a vicious streak, but this dog certainly got more than it bargained for after pouncing on a baby squirrel it found on the ground.
Moments before the hapless baby would have been torn apart, these images show its mother appearing to leap off a nearby tree and attacking the surprised dog.
Wow, that's great John. Absolutely incredible. What a mother won't do to protect her young....
There's one of our local squirrels who's constantly harassing my dog. He's very brazen...sits on the fence and makes noises at my pup. Once he came right up to the screen door..I grabbed my camera and chased the squirrel up on the fence. I yelled at the squirrel to 'get out of here'...and just when I raised the camera, he turned around...I thought he was going to attack!
I work near a little park with benches, paths and a pond--lots of squirrels and a pleasant place to eat lunch. Lots of people feed the squirrels and I used to bring some nuts for them. The squirrels seem quite tame, but one time as I was walking back to work, a squirrel stopped in the path in front of me and stamped its front feet. He seemed to be demanding some food. He didn't attack, but he was quite aggressive and a little scary. I like to watch them but I don't feed them anymore.
My first thought was where was the moron owner that allowed it's dog to roam freely without a leash? That's who should have been attacked my mom squirrel after she got done teaching the dog a lesson and helping baby to safety.
