Hoping I can get some honest info. My husband has been on a job search for months and has been interviewing all over the country. He is being pursued by Bimbo Bakeries for a postion in their Norristown PA plant. We are looking for some insight, maybe from someone out there that works there, or used to, or knows someone who does/did. Based on what he was told over the phone, the previous manager didn't stay long, we're unclear as to why. My husband knows of a friend of a friend that used to work for Bimbo (in a different location), and actually never moved to the city. He communted, from one state to another state for 2.5 years! (He lived in an apartment, and every other week flew home to his family). We found this really strange, and didn't know if it was the choice of the person, or the company wouldn't move him. We would have to move, we currently do not live on the east coast, and don't want to move, (especially in this economoy), if the company isn't stable, or is unethical, or any other weird reason. He has a few other opportunities in the works, so I'm just trying anyway I can to get some info. Just hoping to get some feedback. Thanks so much!

I thought it was a foreign company? I remember reading that it's pronounced "Beem-bo" and the company was concerned that Americans would read it as Bimbo. I'm sorry, other than that, I don't know anything about it....I did notice they have quite a few jobs posted on-line.

I actually had never heard of this company until recently. I also understand that they're foreign-based (and apparently bought out other local companies, such as Stroehmann's). They're actually a big sponsor of the Philadelphia Union (soccer team) and seem to be doing a lot more advertizing, at least locally. I wouldn't think an unstable company would be investing in what I would assume are fairly expensive advertizing/sponsoring activities; it seems like they're trying to re-brand themselves.

Good luck!

Of course, if the company's local HQ was in South Jersey it'd be the greatest thing in the world.

(Sorry, I had to).

The Orowheat brand was acquired by Bimbo a few years ago. I believe other "American" brands are now owned by them as well.

I guess one thing to be said is, at least there is something positive about NAFTA. US jobs are US jobs.

OK, thanks for taking that as a joke.

Back to the topic, I actually didn't know that they bought out Stroehmann's. I guess that's one reason why they chose Plymouth Meeting as a HQ (because Stroehmann's is (or was) a few miles west in Norristown).
