After the Fiorino incident in May 2011, has there been an uptick of people open carrying within Philadelphia/center city?

By now I would hope the Philly city police is well versed in the law regarding open carry in philly so I am curious if more gun owners in Philly are moving from concealed carry to open carry within the city of Philadelphia.

This stuff really annoys me.

Only somebody who knows nothing about Northeast/Mid-Atlantic cities and their metros would ever suggest that more guns on the street is a good thing, let alone VISIBLE guns. Are you kidding me?

The Amount of panic an open gun policy would cause in the Northeastern City outweighs the benefits...

i'm not even sure what the law is regarding open carry, but i'm not sure i've ever seen someone doing it. getting a concealed carry permit in PA is relatively easy, as long as you're not a convicted felon, although it's a little more difficult in philly.

I lived in Houston for 26 years and traveled to both cities and small towns across the state and never saw anyone openly carrying a weapon even there. In fact, outside of hunters in the country, the police or the military, I have never seen a single individual openly carrying a gun in public in my travels around the world. Fortunately, it seems people do not feel the need to do this - perhaps they have the good sense to realize it would be more likely to invoke a sense of panic rather than of safety.

Pa is 100% legal to open carry WITHOUT a permit needed.. Fact.. That being said, to try it in the big cities would be asking for trouble.

In philadelphia you do need a "licence to carry firearms" ; PA LTCF, which allows you to conceal carry. However the way it is worded, it also allows you to open carry within philly.

There was a huge issue in may 2011 with an open carrier in philly who had a PA LTCF and was harrassed by philly pd.

Philly PD and even the person that ran the gun licensing unit in philly didn't know the state law and how it pertained to philly.

They definitely do now because it caused Philly PD to go through lots of training regarding LTCF and open carry within the city.

I have a CCW permit for almost 20yrs now.I think anyone who open carries are a damn fool. First off,the police have a hard enough job as it is.The last thing they need,is to have to figure out,if this guy walking down the street with a gun on his hip.Is legal or a nut about to shoot a dozen people in the mall.
2nd ,I`M sure most people have know ideal ,what the value of a gun is on the street. Some dirt bag will put a bullet in the back of your head for that gun on your hip.LOL,this is not some action movie where you think you are going to do some spin move and shoot back. There is nothing you can do if someone shoots you in the back of your head.
