..... That's a lot of school closings.
Do u think the public school system will be able to handle all those kids being absorbed into the system?

btw, I'm a product of these Catholic schools. I feel indifferent toward it though. I neither am happy or sad. Just ehhh.

It is interesting, however to note the decline of the catholic school system in philadelphia, but probably everywhere else too,.

You didn't read the story regarding this very well it appears. No students are losing a spot in school. In fact, the reason they're closing so many schools is because enrollment in Catholic schools has dropped over 30% in the last 10 years alone. They're consolidating schools now by closing the smaller ones and merging them into larger schools. Some families may choose to send their children to a charter school instead I suppose if it's more convenient and they didn't have any attachment to the parochial school system to begin with.

I started a thread on this already, with the full list of schools closing, titled "The List".

If there are two threads and one is titled, "The List", and the other, "Philadelphia Archdiocese closing 48 Catholic schools"...which one do you think most people will connect to the school closings? Hmmmm...???

Considering the fact that every single person I know who was wondering about the schools' fate said the phrase "What schools are on the list?" and every news story mentioned "so and so is on the list" and I even included the full list later on, I'd say people should be able to connect it quite easily.

My thread was started hours ago and hasn't been responded to in awhile. Your question makes no sense.

Oh, and there's this neat little feature that I use every time I look at a thread, where you leave the mouse there and you get a preview of the words in it. That should make it quite clear what the thread is about.

Will some parents just give up and send their kids to public schools?

I'm looking at the two schools in East Norriton that are closing -- St. Titus, off North Wales Road, and Our Lady of Victory on Johnson Highway. They are merging with Epiphany of Our Lord, on Walton Road near the Plymouth Meeting Mall.

Are St. Titus parents going to drive their kids -- or let their kids sit on buses for up to an hour -- over to Epiphany of Our Lord? Or do they throw their hands in the air and send their kids to public school? I wonder.

And why not merge the three schools at the central location -- Our Lady of Victory? Which is on a freakin' bus line -- how convenient can you get?

Curious.

Yeah, there are still multiple Catholic schools left in Philly.

As for public school.. well plenty of kids who went to Bonner were from places like Southwest Philly, Sharon Hill, Folcroft, even places like Chester. That school was a way to a better life for a lot of kids. Then of course you've got West Catholic and St. Hubert's.

They need to open up charter schools to offset the void, ones that aren't paid for with state dollars and that aren't a part of the districts.

Nobody responded to it in a while because the title doesn't make any sense.

This thread title caught my attention and I don't even live in Phili.

48 Catholic Schools closing is an attention getter!
