Looks like Camper on Chestnut Street closed too. Not surprised, never saw anybody in there. It's a shame, after several years of great retail growth for Center City, it's now taking several steps back.

In other news, Indochino and Zara are opening in King of Prussia. So now every store that Ceneter City had exclusively is also available in KOP.

I was surprised Camper made it that long. The Zara is KoP will also be one of the larger Zaras (NYC sized store).

In a time when retail is struggling almost everywhere, it will be even harder for a city like Philadelphia to catch up. But its not just Philadelphia that is struggling, I was walking down Bleeker St in the West Village the other day, and at least 1/4 of the stores are now vacant, and a good number of storefronts on Broadway in Soho as well.

If Philadelphia could emulate the outlets in Limerick that would be great for city retail, however, I do not see that happening. It may look good on paper, but implemented not so good.

Look who the mayor is. What does that tell you? I'll get "stuff" for saying this but Kinney is a lot like John Street. He's a "blue collar" guy without vision. We were so lucky to get Nutter, who, inspite of having to deal with the Great Recession, understood what this city should be.

As for KoP does Simon see it as a flagship mall for them?

Well, now you have seen for yourself that I was not imagining all the problems in SoHo. And Bleeker? What a shame.

Do you have first hand knowledge about how the FO/new Gallery may turn out? If you don't try not to turn it into something negative. It will absolutely draw tourists. The old Gallery did.

Agreed, Kenney treats Philadelphia like a upstate mountain town in 1950. And yes, KoP along with a few others are Simons showcase centers.

Bleeker is a shame because its such a beautiful area, yet the vacancies are hard to ignore.

Well PREIT seems to be overwhelmed with their current portfolio, and I think the Gallery project is bigger than they anticipated, and requires a lot more attention and marketing skills then say Cherry Hill, which is why I think it will not perform well.

I am not a huge fan of Simon, but I think the Gallery would be in better hands because Simon has the power and marketing techniques to attract tenants. However, Simon has a track record of selling and running, leaving properties to rot if they don't perform well, so hopefully PREIT will stay invested in the new Gallery even if it has a rocky start.

lol. I wouldn't go that far. But he's not as prepared as I was hoping he would be. But once again we are stuck with too many old school pols like him because millennials do not vote in sufficient enough numbers or can't break their internet addictions long enough to understand that they have the numbers to effect change.

I also dislike Kenney. Nutter was all over the place trying to boost Philly's image in and out of the Philly metro area. He was also good about filling roles with people who believed in good government and were energetic. Kenney advocated some popular liberal opinions (pro immigration and pro marijuana) to get the support of younger voters. Unfortunately he seems to have no vision for how to better the City. Given the interest of the private sector in the City right now this could be a huge lost opportunity.

In Kenney's favor, he's been pro-immigration for years. Long before younger votes were able to vote.

As I tried to infer his "vision", such as it is, is way too local.
