the photo of the incredibly ugly house in atlanta takes the cake. you took a picture of two blocks in Philadelphia, made sweeping generalizations, and then posted some ugly POS from Atlanta.

Did you intentionally ignore the pictures posted by JM of CC and ClarkPark of some blocks in West Philly? They are the most beautiful neighborhoods posted in this thread thus far IMO, including Brooklyn and *ahem* the one from Atlanta.

You don't want us to start pulling out Chestnut Hill, East Falls, Fitler Square, Girard Estates, Mount Airy, West Germantown, etc. to make you look like a complete fool.

Otherwise, you should look things up yourself if you have no intention in changing your mind.

It's clear the OP does not like older buildings, no matter how beautiful they are on the outside, no matter how beautiful the streetscape is, and no matter if they are newly renovated with top notch finishes inside. That is your opinion, but to call these areas ugly, then post a pic of Brooklyn, which has very similar appearances to Philadelphia is pretty funny.

In any case, here are some Google Maps of modern streetscapes in Philadelphia:

The Reserve, South Philadelphia

Packer Park, South Philadelphia

The Villas, South Philadelphia

The Navy Yard, South Philadelphia

Marconi Plaza, South Philadelphia

East Passyunk Crossing, South Philadelphia

Hawthorne, South Philadelphia

Bella Vista, South Philadelphia

Queen Village, South Philadelphia

Northern Liberties, North Philadelphia

Crap like that.

I've met plenty of people who simply don't like the more gritty, rowhome centric, urbanity of Philadelphia and much prefer cities with more open space.

However, the fact that you would trash the way Philly looks and then hold up Brooklyn as a standard of beauty is laughable. Not because Brooklyn isn't beautiful, it is, but because there is no place I've seen in the world that architecturally resembles Brooklyn like Philadelphia does. I mean honestly that picture you posted of Brooklyn is a scene that is very familiar in Philadelphia.

How in the world can you find Brooklyn attractive but not Philadelphia?

That picture of Brooklyn can be compared to the Spring Garden section of Philly

So I get it. You think Philly rowhouses are ugly. You like the looks of the housing stock in Houston, Miami, Atlanta and Brooklyn. I happen to think many neighborhoods in the sunbelt cities you mentioned are ugly. People have different tastes and preferences in architecture and neighborhood feel. That's not exactly breaking news.

Here's what I don't get, however: It wouldn't dawn on me to waste my time opening a thread in those city's forums to tell them I think their neighborhoods are ugly. Other than continuing to to offer variations of the same opinion peppered with the occasional childish nonsense such as this:

. . . do you have anything of intellect to share?

If not, your thread will probably have a little more life before it begins sliding down the page and into the ether.

PHILLY has been revitalizing and changing for the past 10-15 years and will continue to do so. So don't give us this Brooklyn BS you're posting. I've been going to the boroughs for many years now and plenty of the areas especially Queens & BK looked just like Philly neighborhoods.

Francisville in transition

Sooooo, according to your opinion of Philadelphia's neighborhoods looking as though they've been dormant for 5 decades has been changing and it still is.

I actually just met someone today who is fighting to keep historic philadelphian buildings from being destroyed so they can instead be restored. I can only imagine in atlanta, they'll probably just destroy it or let it decay and everyone will just move to the newly built neighborhood.
