Very spacious and it had a lounge section where you can sit on the couch and watch TV, great pastries and overall a great spot. Not tight like Starbucks where you have no room at all lol

How long has this place been on 40th and Locust? I don;t remember it being there in 2012

It was there for several years but it was called Bucks County Coffee. It became Saxby's about a year and half to two years ago. Yes, the coffee there is delicious.

You and chain eating establishments...

I remember Saxbys having good biscotti. I don't think I've tried any of their other baked goods.

Heavens... Skip that. Try either Green Line Cafe which are located at 45th and Locust or 43rd and Baltimore.
There's also one on Powelton Ave. just east of 38th.

There's also a black owned coffee shop and cafe on Lancaster Ave just west of 38th St. They feature La Colombe coffee. It's a lovey place. Very homey.

I'm often baffled why more Philadelphians don't support more local entrepreneurs like these more often.

Of course they are. God only knows where they actually came from and how old they are.

Some people like these chains. I'm the exact opposite. I try to support as many local small businesses like these various independent coffee shops we have. One of my favorites is Good Karma which is on 22nd St.

La Colombe's big new coffee house, on Frankford Ave. in Fishtown, is terrific, btw.
